Did you know that you can simulate leap second corrections with LabSat, including the one on 30th June 2015?

LabSat customers who have registered their unit can now download a leap second scenario that simulates the leap second event on 30th June 2015. Request the LabSat Leap Second Scenario for free.

If you have purchased SatGen software, you can also simulate previous leap second events (e.g. updated in Dec 2008) to test the robustness of your device. The latest SatGen v3 software release offers leap second events dating back to 1980.

LabSat 3 firmware release offers new features

A new firmware update for LabSat 3 is now available to download in the 'Customer Area'.

This release includes the addition of:

CAN Arbitration

Up until now, LabSat 3 has been able to record data from two separate CAN Buses into a digitised format. Now it is possible to record CAN signals into a simple text file which is saved into the same directory as that of the GNSS data. The advantage to CAN arbitration is that when it is replayed onto a Bus it does so without ‘speaking’ over the top of all other traffic, thereby avoiding Bus errors.

Individual CAN frames can also be filtered so that only a selection of IDs are recorded.

“Play From/For” and “Record For”

Via the front panel (rather than only over Ethernet) it is now possible to start a scenario from a certain point within it rather than always from the start, and for a selected period of time rather than the whole scenario length. It is also now possible to record for a selected length of time from the moment the recording is started.

Additional Config Commands via Ethernet

The API/SDK will soon be updated so that new commands allowing for the configuration of CAN and triple constellations are possible via telnet.

NMEA Control over Ethernet

The streaming of NMEA can now be enabled or disabled via the Ethernet connection.

Mute Constellations

Previously it was only possible to mute ALL constellations during replay, but now the user can choose to mute a specific constellation whilst replaying.

LabSat 3 now with Triple Constellation Capability

Now that there are three fully working satellite navigation systems – American GPS, the Russian Glonass system, and the recent Chinese Beidou constellation - testing ‘all in view’ integrated receivers is becoming more critical to the success and user experience of your product. Now, LabSat 3 is available with the ability to record and replay signals from all these constellations simultaneously, giving you absolute flexibility in your testing procedures.

Any existing LabSat 3 can be upgraded, although it will need to be returned to Racelogic. If you wish to upgrade your single or dual channel LabSat 3 to the triple constellation variant, please contact your distributor for a quote and to discuss your requirements.

Goodbye to LabSat 2

From 7th November 2014 LabSat 2 has been withdrawn from the LabSat product range. With requirement for a dual constellation system satisfied by the LabSat 3 dual constellation model, this product line has reached end of life.

The range includes CAN Interface Module (RLLSIM01), RS232 Interface Module (RLLSIM02), RS422/RS485 Interface Module (RLLSIM03) and the LabSat Dual CAN Module (RLLSIM04).


LabSat 3 - Narrative Case Study

Narrative-ClipLabSat is a GNSS record and replay system that allows for systematic and repeatable testing of GPS based products. In this article we look at how it has been put to use in the development of one of the new wave of 'Wearable' devices.

In a similar fashion to the explosion in the mobile phone market, the 'Wearables' sector is set to grow at a similar pace, with forecasts of approximately 210 million new devices being shipped by 2018 – an increase of over 100%.

As you would expect, this expansion hasn't been ignored by businesses looking to capitalise on what is already a major revenue stream. Amazon has created a department dedicated entirely to the sector, their director of wireless and mobile electronics announcing recently: "Wearable technology is an exciting category with rapid innovation and our customers are increasingly coming to Amazon to shop and learn about these devices." Tellingly, such is the pace at which these products are being developed and produced that Amazon feels the need to incorporate a learning centre to help their customers navigate through the myriad of options on offer.

Case Study: Narrative "Clip" wearable camera

Narrative-LogoThe Narrative Clip is a typically innovative wearable, and one of the new wave of 'lifelogging' devices now finding their way into mass production. It is a tiny (36mm x 36mm x 9mm) five megapixel camera with enough memory to store four thousand images and battery power for two days of use. Designed and manufactured by a Swedish company originally called Memoto, who sourced crowdfunding to get the project off the ground, the Narrative Clip is small and non-intrusive to the point that it can be easily worn on one's clothes.
