Choosing LabSat for GNSS Testing

Why the first Record & Replay System leads the GNSS testing market

More and more testing engineers are realising the benefit of using Record and Replay systems for accurate, real-world, repeatable evaluation of GNSS systems.

As the original record and replay product and the most affordable multi constellation simulator on the market, LabSat is as popular as ever, with customers as diverse as mobile device companies, defence organisations, and automotive technology manufacturers.

Here are seven reasons why LabSat and the recently released LabSat 2 are the most powerful, effective, and simple to use GNSS record, replay, and simulation systems available.

1. Record and Replay GPS + BeiDou

Labsat2-with-GNSS-Receiver-200With a nearly complete constellation now in operation over Asia, BeiDou is becoming increasingly important in the GNSS world.

As more satellites are being launched, there is a growing need to simulate these signals for use in test and development.

LabSat 2 responds to the increasing need for developers to be able to test BeiDou enabled systems, with its capability to record and replay two channels GPS + BeiDou data simultaneously. Find out more >

2. Multi Bit

In addition to dual RF channels allowing simultaneous record or playback of GPS L1, Galileo E1, GLONASS L1 and BeiDou B1 bands, LabSat 2 also features flexible multi bit capability. This allows you to select 4-bit per channel or 2-bit per channel sampling to suit your application.

For most testing applications such as navigation system testing, 2-bit sampling provides a very good recording with less than 3dB of signal loss. The benefit of 2-bit sampling is that the recorded data files are reduced by half when compared with 4-bit files. When using the LabSat2 4-bit mode, the IQ data is sampled 4 bits at a time providing improved signal integrity with noise levels reduced to less than 1dB.

3. Synchronised Video

labsatvideosync_small2LabSat has the unique ability to synchronise with the video from a Racelogic Video VBOX.

This enables you to record live video and then replay it, synchronised with the GPS data, shown as a graphical overlay on the video.

4. Integrated vehicle data

Racelogic CAN expert Stephen T. extracts CAN data from a Mitsubishi EVO XLabSat can record additional external signals at the same time as the RF data, synchronized to within nanoseconds. This allows trigger events and digital data to be recorded and then replayed at the same time.

We have options for digital, CAN, RS232 and analogue signals – useful if you are developing a combined inertial and GNSS system, for example.

5. Wide product range

Racelogic Product OverviewWe understand that customers have a very broad range of requirements, and limited budgets. Therefore we believe that you shouldn’t need to pay for added functionality that you don’t need.

This is why we have a number of options from which customers can choose. You can have the correct system for your needs, at the right price.

6. Racelogic heritage: strong build quality and in-house design

LabSat is conceived, designed, developed and tested by our own engineers. This means we can quickly upgrade the hardware or software in response to customer feedback.

Racelogic are an ISO 9000 company who have supplied almost every Automotive manufacturer in the world with GPS test equipment since 2001. Racelogic are used to the requirements of test engineers for rugged, precision products that stand up to repeated use in less than ideal conditions. LabSat is designed and manufactured under the same stringent processes.

7. Flexible upgrade scheme

If you need further functionality after your purchase, we have affordable upgrade options, meaning that you can move from LabSat to LabSat 2, and from Replay Only to Record + Replay.

Furthermore all our LabSat software and firmware upgrades will always be free of charge for customers.

Future developments...

Our dedicated team of GPS and RF experts are continually developing and updating LabSat in order to provide additional functions and features in response to customer's needs. Watch this space for future developments!
